TCA Highway Angel Spokesperson Lindsay Lawler to Kick Off Second Truck Stop Tour
5/6/2014

Select TA/Petro Locations to Host Pro-Trucking Country Music Concerts

Alexandria, Virginia:

"On the road again..." Country recording artist and Highway Angel program spokesperson Lindsay Lawler will hit the road later this month for her second consecutive Highway Angel Truck Stop Tour— and TravelCenters of America LLC (TA) has just announced that it has reprised its role as the host of this year's series of events. The tour, designed to promote a better trucking-industry image by increasing the exposure of the Truckload Carriers Association's (TCA) Highway Angel program to the public, will kick off at the Knoxville West TA location on May 21st at 9 a.m. The tour will span five months, wrapping up in late September, and will also include performances in Nevada, Alabama, Virginia, New York, and Minnesota.

"The TCA's goal of putting the spotlight on great deeds by the professional truck driving community through the Highway Angel program is consistent with what we do each day," said Tom O'Brien, president and CEO of TravelCenters of America, LLC. "Like the TCA, we promote all that is good about our industry, and Lindsay's concerts provide a way for all of us to say 'thank you' to our customers through her unique musical and vocal talent."

"We saw a lot of success with last year's tour," said Lawler of the tour's initial run in 2013. "We had so many drivers come to each location, thrilled that they hadn't been forgotten and feeling like finally someone noticed and was rewarding their hard work. It's a great feeling being able to provide free music and entertainment to some of the hardest working men and women our nation has to offer."

Another tour objective for the country artist? Rebuilding relations between the trucking and country music industries.

"Country music and trucking used to be synonymous with one another. While the country music industry continues to sing of the hardworking, middle-class man or woman just trying to live the American dream— by all means a definition of those working in the trucking industry— the relationship between the two declined at some point. I'd love to see it prosper once again."

The tour is sponsored by TA/Petro, Schneider, and Wholesale Truck & Finance. Each stop will feature an hour-long acoustic performance by Highway Angel spokesperson Lindsay Lawler from atop her flatbed truck stage (provided by Fikes Truck Line), as well as a live broadcast radio component. All of the stops are posted on the tour's official Web site, http://www.truckstoptour.com/, and are subject to change.

Launched in August 1997, the Highway Angel program has recognized hundreds of drivers for the unusual kindness, courtesy, and courage they have shown others while on the job.
