My birthplace, Allentown, Pennsylvania, is the home of the greatest name in trucks – Mack. When my father, Carl, was growing up in the 1960-70s in a suburb north of Allentown where our family still resides, there was no employer more revered than the one identified by the famous Bulldog. While in college, my dad worked on the assembly line at Mack, contributing greatly to paying his own way through school and instilling the “built like a Mack Truck” pride in him. His desire for a post college career at Mack was realized in 1978 – a career that has not only provided for my family, but demands a work ethic that serves as an example for my brothers and me. Although he held other positions in his 30 years, since I have been old enough to remember, my dad has been working in the Parts OE Aftermarket Division responsible for maintaining inventory levels at regional distribution centers. He strives to be ahead of the demand for parts, and this is an attribute that I feel has had an important influence on the type of person and student I am. Being prepared and having what it takes to keep vehicles on the road is something my father stressed to me when I accompanied him on many “bring your daughter to work” days. I have converted that philosophy to my own ambition to teach and perform because upholding the highest industry standards in any field is critical to success. The trucking industry sets the bar high for excellence, and I respect its insistence on dependability and quality. I am not only grateful to this industry for my own personal wellbeing, I recognize that it is responsible for the transportation of the essentials of life for everyone. |
