My father is a 19 year employee of Cottingham & Butler, an insurance services firm that specializes in understanding and managing the risks of truckload carriers. The members of the Truckload Carriers Association are key clients of Cottingham & Butler and the service challenges and rewards have had a significant impact on my personal and professional development. I can understand the challenges of the transportation industry. There are many in any given situation, and examples of the transporation are: rising fuel costs and the physical demands and risks associated with operating a commercial vehicle. Due to these challenges, problem solving is a vital part of the trucking functionality. It is also imperative to be innovative and use innovations to provide competitive advantages. Understanding that the Truckload Carriers Association has a 69 year history of representing the good of truckload carriers, I recognize similar values I daily utilize. I learned the value of hard work and through Cottingham and Butler’s cliental, learned to appreciate the variability of other businesses. The relationship between Cottingham and Butler and the Truckload Carriers Association has given me a first-hand view of a successful business union and the added merits of communication and cooperation. Trucking is a vital part of my life. The daily distribution of food to the supermarkets, books to my school, fuel to the gas stations, etc., in addition to the benefits I have gained from learning problem solving techniques and the importance of relationships between business partners are benefits that will last me a lifetime. |
