This Live Learning webinar provides 1 CE credit toward the Truckload Academy Human Resources (HR-L) or Recruitment (REC-HLC) Certificate.

Because of the current Administration’s focus on immigration law compliance, it’s crucial that trucking companies ensure the fulfillment of their legal responsibilities in the hiring process. First and foremost, they should pay close attention to the timely and thorough completion of the I-9 Form, attesting that a new employee is authorized to work in the United States. This is especially critical now, as an updated version of the form just took effect this past September which must be used whenever a new employee is hired.

Join Eddie Wayland, Howard Kastrinsky and Marcel Hernandez of the law firm of King & Ballow, in an informative webinar giving you important guidance on why you must complete the I-9 for all of your new employees and how you can avoid the most common pitfalls. You will learn how to ensure your company has a process for completing, reviewing and retaining I-9 forms to be in compliance. In addition, they will explain why it is important to periodically audit your I-9 files for accuracy and completeness, as well as explain some of the penalties for non-compliance.

After attending this 60-minute session, you will be able to:

  • Determine when you must complete an I-9 for a new employee and what information you may accept
  • Identify the changes found in the new I-9 form
  • Identify the most common errors made in completing the I-9 form and how to avoid them
  • Respond to a Department of Homeland Security audit of your I-9 files
  • Correct any mistakes you discover from your I-9 audit
  • Explain the steps to take when a Social Security mismatch error is received after filing Affordable Care Act reports.
This interactive program will provide opportunities for you to ask questions.
