Recent Activity

On August 9, 2011, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) jointly released a final rule that would, for the first time, set fuel consumption and CO2 emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles.  Under the rule, heavy-duty combination tractors would be required to achieve an approximately 20 percent reduction in fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by model year 2018.

Background

The U.S. EPA has jurisdiction over regulating emissions produced from mobile sources, such as commercial trucks. Additionally, some state environmental agencies also have jurisdiction to limit some emissions in certain instances. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is one such agency.

TCA is a member of EPA’s SmartWay Transport Partnership. This voluntary program is a partnership between freight transport companies and organizations that aims to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.
