My father is my impact on life and my connection to the trucking industry.  My desire to be successful in school has always been reinforced by my father, who worked hard his whole life to provide for his family.  Since my father’s unexpected passing, I have learned to never take for granted what you have, and to work hard to achieve your goals.  My father always said that in the game of life, you will only reap the rewards that you sow.  This scholarship would help continue to fulfill my family and my dreams of being successful at the college level academically and in baseball.

Being a full time student at Shorter College has allowed me to prove myself academically by making the Dean’s list during my first two years and earning a cumulative GPA of 3.33.  I have been able to achieve this while playing varsity baseball for the Shorter Hawks baseball team.  Playing at the college level is very demanding but it has taught me the importance of time management, which will be important in my life’s work, and has allowed me to demonstrate my ability to prioritize school while balancing my baseball schedule.

The trucking industry allowed my father to do what he loved to work on, and that was accounting.  His experience in math has strengthened my desire to continue with his work in the area of business.  My academic success now will not only affect my future career, but the quality of life that I will live.  The more diligent I am now with my education, the greater the possibilities will be in the future.  After graduating from Shorter College, I plan on furthering my education and possibly pursuing my Masters in Business Administration.
