My family would not have been able to survive without the trucking industry. My dad’s very first job was within the industry and he continues to hold a career in trucking at Cummins. My older brothers have also followed in his footsteps, working for the industry in the summer. These career paths have led to the financial means needed to support the increasing demands of three college tuitions. Without the community created through trucking, we would not be the family we are today. I feel that trucking has taught me a lot about the world that I could not have learned anywhere else. I have learned compassion, not only through my own family, but through those members of the business that have become an addition to our family. I have also gained considerable altruism through trucking, as I have seen firsthand how selfless one has to be to be on the road all the time. Trucking has not only supported or family life, it has more importantly shaped it.
