Help to Honor TCA's Former Leaders

Photo: Mark KesslerWhile visiting TCA's headquarters, Mark Kessler, senior vice president at PeopleNet, saw old photographs of the association’s former leaders. He then attended TCA’s 75th Annual Convention in 2013, where he watched a historical slideshow about the people who had led the group over the years. Kessler concluded that something had to be done to honor TCA's past chairmen.

“I realized that these guys brought us through so much – from regulation in 1936, to deregulation in 1980, to the complex lobbying efforts and technical issues that we face today in our industry,” said Kessler. “I thought it was only right that we honor these hard-working individuals with a lasting tribute – a scholarship in each of their names.”

Kessler is the founder of the annual Transportation Executive Summit at Pebble Beach, which holds a golf tournament affectionately known as “Pebble with a Purpose” to raise money for various transportation-related charities.  He arranged for the donation of “seed money” for each named scholarship stemming from the new Past Chairmen’s Fund, which was officially launched during the TCA Scholarship Fund Gala at the association's 2014 Annual Convention.

"There's still so much more to do," said Kessler.  "My goal is to have scholarships perpetually endowed in every past chairman's name, fully endowed. The seed money was a great start, but it will take $50,000 to have scholarships funded each year in these great leaders' names, and awarded to the bright young minds in families tied to the trucking industry."
