As my family traveled in our van whenever a truck went by, my siblings and I would quiz my dad on the specifics of that trucking company. As kids we would search for the company name on the truck, and then ask my dad the city and state where they were located. More often than not he would be able to provide us with the correct answers to our quiz questions. This wealth of knowledge impressed us as there are so many different trucking industries worldwide. At a young age, I discovered how knowledgeable my father was in his field of work, but I also discovered how passionate he was about his job. Growing up with my father’s passion in the trucking industry and my mother as a homemaker, only made me wish that I would one day be just as passionate about my future career as both of my parents are about their current careers. As I enter into my fourth and final year of college this fall, I could probably name a few companies, with minimal knowledge of their home state and city, but that on the other hand is not my passion. My love comes for the people and the knowledge of how to care for each and every patient individually. My knowledge comes more for the medications, side-effects, assessments and correct procedural techniques to adequately give the best care in hopes of recovery for each patient. While becoming a nurse is far from entering into the trucking industry, there are bits and pieces I have taken from his career and made them into my own. My dad’s passion is for his work with the trucking industry, mine is for nursing, but both professions are lending helping hands along the journey we travel through life. |
