2005 Photo Contest Winners
The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) is pleased to announce the grand prizewinner of the 9th Annual Truck Driver Photo Contest is Peter Muir, a company driver for Cassens Transport Company of Edwardsville, Illinois. The contest sponsored by S-Line, Inc. a provider of cargo control and safety products and RPM Magazine recognizes talented truck drivers who are also amateur photographers. The six contest winners will have their photos featured on TCA's website, holiday calendar, and in RPM, a free monthly magazine that targets over-the-road professional drivers and owner operators.
Grand Prize Winner:
Peter Muir, a company driver for Cassens Transport Company of Edwardsville, Illinois.
Prize: $1,000 + photo featured on the front cover of RPM Magazine
Muir is an avid photographer who is a first time contestant of the TCA Photo Contest. His winning photo shows his truck cab lights on at night with a full moon in the background, and the light beam of an oncoming vehicle on the road above. While driving for Euro Transports, Inc. his winning photo was taken, with the full encouragement and support of his boss, Herman Goerling, who has the photo hanging in his office. The judges were impressed with the contrasting colors highlighted between his truck and the surroundings.
Muir will receive a check for $1,000 and have his grand prize photograph featured on the front cover of RPM Magazine.
2nd Place Winner:
Fred Schlunt of Arvada, Colorado, a driver for Western Distributing Transportation, Inc. of Denver, Colorado.
Prize: $750 + photo featured in RPM Magazine
Schlunt's photo is of two blue and white Western trucks driving in front of the beautiful and exquisite desert cliffs of Utah.
3rd Place Winner:
Wesley Turner driver for Seguro Truck Lines, LTD of San Antonio, Texas.
Prize: $500 + photo featured in RPM Magazine
Turner has been a driver with Seguro for 10 years and enjoys taking photos in his spare time. His winning photo shows how many unique types of freight our industry hauls, as his red truck hauls a large tree for planting.
4th Place Winner:
Frederick Lazenby of Lindon, Utah, a driver with Western Distributing Transportation, Inc. of Denver, Colorado.
Prize: $100 + photo featured in RPM Magazine
Through his side mirror, Frederick was able to capture a breathtaking view of a large multicolored cliff in Utah. Over the years, he has taken photos throughout the country for his company calendar and will be receiving $100 for his winning entry.
5th Place Winner:
K. Colin Robertson of Salt Lake City, Utah, a driver for Crete Carriers, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Prize: $100 + photo featured in RPM Magazine
Robertson is no stranger to the TCA Photo Contest, as last year one of his photos won the grand prize. This year his entry features his Crete truck in front of Mt. Shasta, which happens to be a dormant volcano, in Weed, California
6th Place Winner:
Richard Sibole of Benton, Kentucky, a driver for K&B Transportation of South Sioux City, Nebraska.
Prize: $100 + photo featured in RPM Magazine
Sibole's winning photo is of a Coca-Cola truck traveling on the highway, near the Salt Lake Desert with gorgeous mountains in the background.
Honorable Mentions
In addition to the six primary winners, four honorable mentions ($50 prize each) were awarded:
David Merryman of Abilene, Texas.
Merryman is a driver for Crete Carriers, in Lincoln, Nebraska. His photo impressed the judges, as it shows the stunning fall foliage of the Red Mountain Pass, near Silverton, Colorado.
Dean Coffman of Bellingham, Washington.
Coffman is leased to Holland Enterprises of Mapleton, North Dakota. The judges cited his photo, as he was able to capture the peace and tranquility found on the highway with the beauty of winter on the White Pass Summit in Washington.
Morgan & Tina Morris of Dawson, Texas.
Morgan & Tina Morris have been driving two years for FedEx Custom Critical of Green, Ohio. Their photo caught the judge's eye with its appealing beauty of the Utah Desert Mountains and terrain
Max Shaffer, of Granite City, Illinois.
Shaffer drives for CRST Malone, Inc. of East St. Louis, Illinois. Max submitted a photo with the caption "Mama Ask Me to Stop and Pick Up Some Flour, On The Way Home. Wont She Be Proud," and shows him standing in front of his truck full of flour crates. The humor won the judges attention.
