Freight Capacity At An All Time High and A Driver
Shortage to Go With It
New hands-on solutions conference for truck driver
recruitment and retention
Brentwood, TN (November 3, 2004) – MultiMedia
Advertising, well known as the industry leader in recruitment
advertising, has teamed with the Truckload Carriers
Association (TCA) to present our first joint annual
Recruitment & Retention Conference entitled “The
Changing Face of Trucking: New & Emerging Trends
in Transportation Recruitment & Retention” to
be held January 26-27 in Nashville, Tennessee.
“Our strong reputation in recruiting paired with TCA’s knowledge
of retention made a great fit for our 2005 conference,” says Kelley Walkup,
ACS MultiMedia Advertising Divisional Vice President. “By joining forces,
TMI and TCA can offer a more comprehensive conference package with more in-depth
topics specifically for recruiting directors, retention directors, owners, general
managers and CEO’s,” stated TCA’s President, Chris Burruss.
On the recruitment side, general sessions and roundtable
discussions will address timely issues such as how
to appeal to a variety of demographic groups and cultures;
branding your company; and identifying your labor pool. For retention, sessions
and workshops will focus on effectively managing a driver’s first 90 days
with a company by involving all departments; increasing profitability and retention
for independent contractors; stopping “churning” by building safety
into retention; and, developing and measuring a realistic retention action plan.
Gary Salisbury, Executive Vice President and COO of Fikes Truck Line, Inc., Hope,
AR, stated that at “last year’s conference we learned how to improve
the productivity of our recruiting department by focusing on department staffing,
structure, policies and procedures. The retention strategies that we implemented
helped us lower our turnover from 75% to our current ratio of 66%.”
As always, the conference features some of the industry’s most knowledgeable
authorities on a variety of subjects. The presidents, vice presidents and safety
directors of respected, successful trucking companies are coming to speak and
share their experiences and expertise at the conference. Beth Baylor, Director
of Recruiting, Baylor Trucking, Inc., Milan, IN, explained that last year she “invited
her CEO, Bob Baylor, to attend so that he could get a better understanding of
what is involved in recruiting. He got a lot out of the conference and now recruiting,
safety and operations play an integrated role in the success of our company."
The recruitment and retention conference will be
held January 26 and 27, 2005, at the Sheraton Nashville-Downtown.
